Can I use tap water in my aquarium?
Answered By Addison Asay
Untreated tap water is not harmful to use in
an aquarium. However, there is tap water that
is treated with cleaning agents like Chlorine
that may harm the fish. Cleaning agents are
used to treat the water for drinking
purposes. You may use any type of water
provided that it is not contaminated with any
type of chemical. Your local pet store or
aquarium store will have products that will
neutralize or remove the chlorine and
chemicals from your aquarium's water.
Generally, you'll need to put some drops of
the product into water in a separate
container and leave overnight for a day or
two before putting the water into the tank.
In case you have a fish that can only live
in salt water, one way to keep it living is
by using sea water for your aquarium or by
means of adding enough salt in your tap water.
