A Wall Aquarium Gives a Dramatic Look to Any Room

Wall aquariums give a dramatic and beautiful look to any room. They can be hung on a dividing wall so they can be admired from each room. Although wall fish tanks may be more expensive than stand mounted aquariums and are harder to install you will be happy that you made the investment and effort when you see how good your fish tank looks and how it is admired by visitors to your home. They can, though, be harder to look after than a regular aquarium as they are installed in a limited space which makes it slightly harder to get into the tank for cleaning, feeding and other maintenance. Newer wall fish tanks come with cupboards above the aquarium which can help to make access simpler.

A few of the more recent wall aquariums come as a kit with all the add ons and hardware for mounting required, so that the accessories such as pumps and filters are concealed. These kits are simple to install so you perhaps do not need a builder to do it for you. If you are not too sure of your expertise in do it yourself, it could be well worth paying someone to do the installation instead then all you must do is to fill the tank and stock it with fish.

A preliminary job you need to do before you hang the aquarium is to find out whether there is any electrical wiring or water pipes within the wall where you intend to mount it. You also need to find a load bearing wall and see where there are wall studs. Aquariums can be extremely heavy when completely filled with water so you must be confident that the wall will take this weight. You should also decide whether you prefer to hang the fish tank or install it into the wall.

The next task for you to do is to measure the area where the tank is to be hung and ensure you include some room for other things such as lights, pumps etc. The pump can be placed some distance away from the tank, and water can be pumped through flexible pipes through the tank. Admittedly this may be extra work on setting up it will have an benefit that you can pump larger amounts of water through the aquarium, which let's you keep many more fish, and also keeps the noise of the pump in another the room. A problem with wall tanks is that they are narrow so that the surface area is smaller than other types aquariums. This can mean that if you do not aerate the water well you can't keep so many fish in the tank.

If you are going to pay a builder to hang your wall aquarium talk to him before you order the tank to make certain he is aware of what you need to be done. Once the tank is mounted it can be treated just like any other aquarium by initially cycling the tank before you add the fish. The best method is fishless cycling which is quite easy to do and does not cause distress to the fish. Once you have cycled the tank you can start to add the fish and plants if you will be using them.

An especially dramatic effect is to make a reef fish tank with brightly coloured saltwater corals and fish, but this is, perhaps a project for an expert fish keeper. A wall fish tank, as said earlier, will make an excellent center of attention to your room and is bound to be appreciated by each one of your visitors.
