How to maintain an aquarium without a filter?

Can you answer hiphopper99's question about aquariums?:

I have bought a new 16 gallon(60 liters) aquarium with only an "Air pump" and some "natural plants".I have four fishes in it,2 small sharks & two dalmation mollies. Can anybody tell me how to maintain an aquarium without a filter for long life of the fishes?

you can't. they need a filter. get one asap. also, what breed are the sharks? if they are bala/silver, you will need a waay bigger tank for them and a school of 4+ (they get a foot long and need 70g+). if they are red tail/rainbows, you should only have one and it will eventually need to be moved to a bigger tank-30g+ for redtail and 50 for rainbow. you will need some algae eaters (a small school of otos would work well) and a shrimp. no fish can live without a filter, even bettas need them. also, those fish are tropical, so you should have a heater set at about 78. also, mollies do best with a teaspoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons.

there is no need of filters to maintain the health of the fishes…feed ur fish once in a weak with live worms (available in aqariums).dont kleen the tank often…..sharks ust be exposed to sunlight.so keep the tank in a bright place.

personally u need to get a heater and filter as the mollies need warm tropical water 23-25 C 74-77 F it is best to have a filter to get rid of all the waste otherwise the water will just continuosly be all merky and smell, mollies also need 1 teaspoon of salt to every 5 litres of water
hope this helps u out and good luck

Lots more water changes.

Like all new aquariums, you'll have to test the water regularly (ideally every day) to get an idea of what your maintainance schedule should be.

I'd guess that with a filter you'd find a 25% change once a week would work, and without a filter two 25% changes a week would be ok.

Unless there is a specific reason you don't want one, I'd highly suggest a filter.

It is advisable to use filter in the tank to keep the water clean for longer periods. If u donot want to use the same, u have to replace the water as and when looks dirty. This is tedius & cumbersome. You may not use stone bed in the aquarium then it would be easy to clean the waste from the bottom of the tank as is done by the shopkeepers selling the fishes. They suck out the waste with the help of the bubber pipe making siphon but be careful that fishes r not sucked out in the process.
